Taste for the exotic

Unlikely to have been inspired by the Ming dynasty tomb food of Object 8, but what would have inspired the creation of this dish?

This item: Dish; earthenware; oval; inside with mottled blue and manganese ground, on which are naturalistically moulded reptiles, a curling water-snake and scattered shells; up the  sides and onto rim: plants, shells, lobster, frog, lizard, fly and butterfly, all in blue, green, white, ochre and brown. Possibly made in Paris . 16th C and 33cm long.
